Is food production, an art or a science?
What is food? The dictionary description is; any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink or that plants absorb in order to maintain life and growth.
Giving it a thought, food as it has been in millennia, plays a very big role to life. However, there is more to food other than just eating it. The right kind of food, the quantity of food, the flavor of food, the presentation, texture quality. A lot of things happen before food gets into our mouths. Now is that in art or science. It is both.
Food is considered as art as it can be used in creativity starting from cutting, cooking, garnishing, serving: Apart from cooking, mixing spices and serving food.
Food as an art is a great example of creativity in which with the help of the food items, food sculptures and other food decorations are being made. It’s a really unique and interesting kind of art which appeared on screen because of these artists passion and of trying new things in really creative ways. Decorations of food with such mind blowing design ideas give them totally new look and make them feel more delicious in taste. This art is really time taking because it requires neat and clean cuttings with having all the small details in food items.
“Sometimes, particular aspects of cooking develop extraordinarily high levels of creative expression and can be compared to other artistic disciplines. In those cases I do regard cooking as an art form.”
Elena Arzak, chef
